Who We Are
Yokoso! Welcome to We Ride Japan!
We Ride Japan was founded by Will and Tamie Turner in 2023. Based on Shikoku Island, Will and Tami work in regional tourism development, using cycle tourism as a tool to revitalize the region they live.
After meeting in Japan in 2005 they spent 2 years travelling the world on bicycles before settling in New Zealand. In 2020 they returned to Japan to embark on a new adventure. Through their work and life experiences in both the cycle and tourism industries, and their current work in regional tourism development, Will and Tami offer professional well-planned and unique itineraries. Our goal is to give our guests once in a lifetime experiences in the country we love. Small groups, local guides and the spirit of adventure is what we’re all about.
Thanks for your interest! We look forward to hosting you!

Our team

William Turner
Will first came to Japan from the UK in 2004. During his first year living in the land of the rising sun he bought a bike and some pannier bags and set off on an adventure around the country that would inspire him for the future. After meeting his now wife Tamie, together they cycled around the world on their bicycles.
Will worked in the bicycle industry for over 10 years before turning to adventure tourism. He now spends his time guiding tours in Japan and New Zealand and working on regional tourism projects in the area he lives. He has a love for adventure and exploration and enjoys sharing this passion with his guests.

Tamie Okawa
Born and raised in Matsuyama, Shikoku, Tamie travelled and lived overseas for many years before returning to her homeland. Since returning to Japan, Tamie has been working on a regional revitalisation project, utilizing cycle tourism as a tool to revitalise the local economy.
Tamie made her first trip by bicycle back in 2006, when she cycled around northern Scotland. Here she fell in love with bicycle travel and hasn’t stopped cycling since. She loves nothing more than showing guests around her home country and her attention to detail and careful planning means nothing is missed!

Hiroaki Terazono (aka TED)
Ted found cycling during his career working as a manager for ANA airlines. Hard work and long hours took it’s toll on his health and cycling was the key to getting and staying healthy. Since then he hasn’t looked back and has become a passionate cyclist who enjoys riding and taking part in cycle events around the country.
Origianlly from Kagoshima, in the south of Kyushu, Ted now resides in Ehime. He brings a wealth of skills to the team with years of experience in the tourism industry in Japan. A fantastic host with a great eye for detail!
Ted recently switched to an E-road bike and as such we can no longer keep up with him on the hills!

Nami Yano
I’ve spent my whole life in Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku and love where I live! I am a self-proclaimed “local specialist ” and work as a museum guide and a boatman, mainly in the Nanyo (South Ehime Prefecture) area.
I started cycling in the summer of 2021 when I participated in a group ride with Will & Tamie. I was impressed by the feeling of being more integrated in nature and I quickly became addicted!
Is my world small? NO! The world I live in is deep! I look forward to meeting you!

Ryuji Ise

Yu Takenouchi
I’m Yu from Kyoto! I started mountain biking after a family camping trip and entered the competitive scene at the age of 8. I went on to become the Japanese national champion in various cycling disciplines, and from 2013 to 2015, I was a member of a Belgian Continental team, competing primarily in cyclocross and road races across Europe. After that, I focused on mountain biking and cyclocross competitions in Japan, while also mentoring youth and junior athletes and working as a tour guide to help more people enjoy cycling in Japan.
I hope to use my experience to support you and make your cycling journey even better! I can go fast if you’d like, but don’t worry—I now specialize in leisurely, laid-back rides 😆

Liz Walton2024-12-05Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What a wonderful trip! It offered great variety in the cycling terrain and route; the landscape (rural and urban); lodging; food; culture; architecture; and more. The entire We Ride Japan staff were friendly, capable, knowledgeable, and so helpful in so many ways--each was a great ambassador for Japan. Making it even better, the bikes were perfect for the conditions and very well maintained. I HIGHLY recommend this tour. Doug Walker2024-11-23Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a fantastic experience riding with We Ride Japan on the Seto Inland Sea and Shikoku Island Ride. The biking is wonderful with beautiful scenery, smooth pavement and nearly no traffic. Will and Tamie have put together a cultural agenda introducing you to Japan. I especially enjoyed meeting Nami and Ryuji who helped us with the nuances of Japanese cuisine. There was a variety of accommodation both Japanese and Western style. Bob Hodgson2024-11-23Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have done a number of overseas rides in recent years and I rate this one very highly. The ride distances were very managable for the average rider leaving plenty of time available to explore and indulge in the local culture. Evening meal choices (food and locations) were varied and excellent as was the accommodation. Will, Tamie, Nami and Ryuji were very knowledgable and always helpful. If you are planning a riding trip to Japan this company won't disappoint. Michael Faherty2024-11-04Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I've just returned from a fantastic 11 day cycle experience with Will, Tami and Ryuji of 'We Ride Japan' and highly recommend Will and his team to anyone contemplating a similar cycle tour. Every aspect of the tour was well organized and perfectly executed, not just meeting my expectations but exceeding all of them. Will and his team obviously know southern Japan very well, being Tami's 'home ground' so to speak. The chosen routes were well thought out and perfectly suited to our group and the choice of accommodation and places to eat were all excellent. I enjoyed every fun-filled moment. I feel I not only had a very memorable trip but had a unique experience with Will and Tami giving our group a great insight into Japan that I feel not a lot of other tourists get. Bill Manning2024-11-04Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This is a truly great bike tour. Our hosts, Will and Tami, made everything so easy. The route has everything (except traffic!) from forest clad hills and fabulous views to bike paths winding through remote towns and valleys. Every meal was a new experience in Japanese cuisine. And the accommodations were exceptional. If you do one international bike tour in your lifetime, do this one. Angela Casley2024-11-04Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What a fantastic holiday. I love Japan, the food, the countryside and the people. Will, Tami and Ryuji, you were faultless. Every detail was covered. Nothing was too much, making it a stress-free holiday that kept delivering. Thank you so much. We Ride Japan ran a tour for our group. There was a big variation in our ages, riding skills, and interests. Will, Tami, Nami and Ted did an amazing job in catering for the varied needs. From cycling, scenery, cultural experience, accommodation, food, first aid to over jealous youngster who came unstuck. They varied programs repeatedly to fit our individuals needs. We were a massive challenge to the team and I can’t recommend them highly enough. There are not enough stars in the rating system to express our rating. Thank you team. Len
