Who We Are
Yokoso! Welcome to We Ride Japan!
We Ride Japan was founded by Will and Tamie Turner in 2023. Based on Shikoku Island, Will and Tami work in regional tourism development, using cycle tourism as a tool to revitalize the region they live.
After meeting in Japan in 2005 they spent 2 years travelling the world on bicycles before settling in New Zealand. In 2020 they returned to Japan to embark on a new adventure. Through their work and life experiences in both the cycle and tourism industries, and their current work in regional tourism development, Will and Tami offer professional well-planned and unique itineraries. Our goal is to give our guests once in a lifetime experiences in the country we love. Small groups, local guides and the spirit of adventure is what we’re all about.
Thanks for your interest! We look forward to hosting you!

Our team

William Turner
Will first came to Japan from the UK in 2004. During his first year living in the land of the rising sun he bought a bike and some pannier bags and set off on an adventure around the country that would inspire him for the future. After meeting his now wife Tamie, together they cycled around the world on their bicycles.
Will worked in the bicycle industry for over 10 years before turning to adventure tourism. He now spends his time guiding tours in Japan and New Zealand and working on regional tourism projects in the area he lives. He has a love for adventure and exploration and enjoys sharing this passion with his guests.

Tamie Okawa
Born and raised in Matsuyama, Shikoku, Tamie travelled and lived overseas for many years before returning to her homeland. Since returning to Japan, Tamie has been working on a regional revitalisation project, utilizing cycle tourism as a tool to revitalise the local economy.
Tamie made her first trip by bicycle back in 2006, when she cycled around northern Scotland. Here she fell in love with bicycle travel and hasn’t stopped cycling since. She loves nothing more than showing guests around her home country and her attention to detail and careful planning means nothing is missed!

Hiroaki Terazono (aka TED)
Ted found cycling during his career working as a manager for ANA airlines. Hard work and long hours took it’s toll on his health and cycling was the key to getting and staying healthy. Since then he hasn’t looked back and has become a passionate cyclist who enjoys riding and taking part in cycle events around the country.
Origianlly from Kagoshima, in the south of Kyushu, Ted now resides in Ehime. He brings a wealth of skills to the team with years of experience in the tourism industry in Japan. A fantastic host with a great eye for detail!
Ted recently switched to an E-road bike and as such we can no longer keep up with him on the hills!

Nami Yano
I’ve spent my whole life in Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku and love where I live! I am a self-proclaimed “local specialist ” and work as a museum guide and a boatman, mainly in the Nanyo (South Ehime Prefecture) area.
I started cycling in the summer of 2021 when I participated in a group ride with Will & Tamie. I was impressed by the feeling of being more integrated in nature and I quickly became addicted!
Is my world small? NO! The world I live in is deep! I look forward to meeting you!

Ryuji Ise

Yu Takenouchi
I’m Yu from Kyoto! I started mountain biking after a family camping trip and entered the competitive scene at the age of 8. I went on to become the Japanese national champion in various cycling disciplines, and from 2013 to 2015, I was a member of a Belgian Continental team, competing primarily in cyclocross and road races across Europe. After that, I focused on mountain biking and cyclocross competitions in Japan, while also mentoring youth and junior athletes and working as a tour guide to help more people enjoy cycling in Japan.
I hope to use my experience to support you and make your cycling journey even better! I can go fast if you’d like, but don’t worry—I now specialize in leisurely, laid-back rides 😆

Barry Sharp2025-06-10Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My wife and I just completed the Seto Inland Sea and Shikoku tour with Will,Tami, Nami and Michelle. It was fantastic to be guided by the owners of the company. Will and Tami should be very proud of how they show the passion they both have for Japan and cycling. The accommodation was a great mix and having breakfasts and dinners included meant we experienced food that maybe we would not normally try. We have been fortunate to do cycling tours in many countries and this well organised adventure was up there with the best. I could not more highly recommend traveling with We Ride Japan Barry and Meredith Rodney Stokes2025-06-10Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Five stars don't seem enough. The trip was so much fun and the We Ride Japan team made the adventure seem seamless. The ride routes, food, and cultural experiences were much better than five stars. I asked myself, "Would I do another trip with We Ride Japan?" The answer is yes, in a heartbeat. I am already planning the next one! If you want a professional, fun, authentic cycle tour of Japan that showcases culture, food, beautiful scenery, wonderful people, WeRide Japan will deliver a superb experience for you. We loved our trip and our guides! Thank you team! Kim Freitas2025-05-27Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I joined the Southern Japan May 2025 tour offered by We Ride Japan. The strengths of this company's offerings are: 1) well-designed and well-planned routes, 2) incredible staff/crew that worked tirelessly and with great attitudes who cared for the clients in every way, 3) superb accommodations, restaurant selection, and flawless logistics. The route covered some of the most beautiful coastal roads, iconic bridges, and quiet mountain roads available. Our Japanese crew members were not only excellent cyclists, but also worked seamlessly together to prepare the bikes, guide the rides, and take care of any rider's needs. They truly loved cycling and were very proud to show us the best roads. We stayed in stunning boutique hotels and enjoyed healthy, nourishing meals made with fresh, local ingredients. The entire trip was well planned and executed, with excellent pre-trip communication. I highly recommend We Ride Japan if you want to experience Japanese landscapes and hospitality. Michele Santilhano2025-05-27Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing company with excellent communication and attention to detail. Great mix of better than the best cycling with appropriate sharing and immersion into important cultural highlights. The volcano was a treat. Lots of options for all abilities contributed to strong group cohesion. Thanks Will, Nami, Yu and Ruji. Ian Esplin2025-05-27Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been on two tours with this company in New Zealand and Japan and both were faultlessly managed by Will and his team. They attend to every detail and provide interesting, diverse and sometimes challenging routes. The accommodation is very good as well as varied and interesting food options. ian taggart2025-05-06Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My partner and I completed the April '25 Seto Island tour with Will/Tamie/Nami/Ryuji as gracious hosts/guides. We have 30+ years experience with cycle touring (over several continents) ranging from guided tours evolving to increasingly more solo bike-packing. Given this was our first time riding Japan, we were happy for the extra help and guidance to better understand the local culture and manage accommodation. The tour met and exceeded our expectations. The routes, transits, views, food and accommodation exceeded what we could have done ourselves. As a relatively 'new business' the building effort the team are making means this tour is extremely good value and ranks (very) highly in any world-wide comparison. By way of endorsement upon completion, we (and a few others) immediately signed up for a longer ride in '26. My wife, Melanie, was similarly impressed - we are now counting down the weeks/ months till we return. The only downside for, me was a first and addictive introduction to lightweight e-bikes !! This may require future feeding of my bike-gear acquisition syndrome, with the latest e-bike models. Swapping over to an e-bike after the first 3 days, totally changed my rider experience and afterwards resulted in other riders commenting on my whistling, singing and smiling going up hills. I felt, the e-bike literally (and painlessly) wound 30 yrs off the bike clock. ( there are meaner & more painful options - I could explore - as Melanie is quick to point out :-) ). Well done Will & Tamie. Bernard Rosenberg2025-05-03Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My wife and I had a wonderful time on the Seto Inland Sea, Shimanami Kaido and Shikoku Island tour with Will, Tami, Nami and Ryugi. The four of them are warm, personable, attentive, efficient and intent on acquainting their riders with the local Japanese culture. We could not have asked for better hosts. With four guides for the group’s eleven riders, we experienced flawless advance along the route and expert guidance at the attractions along the way. Rural Japan is quite different from the Japan most tourists experience and our hosts were dedicated to have us understand and appreciate the local culture. The riding is wonderful, with scenery that is hard to beat. The roads are generally quiet and the drivers are courteous. There are some moderate ascents and thrilling descents. The bikes they provide are excellent and seem brand new. The accommodations were quite good with many of them very fine traditional ryokan style rooms. The arranged meals were always exceptional quality. We have ridden extensively in many countries and this ride is unsurpassed. Gail Husson2025-04-29Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Really enjoyed my tour on Shikoku. Will and Tami took great care of us along with assistants, Nami & Ryuji. Rental bikes were top notch as were the accommodations. A nice mix of traditional lodging and Western. Meals were great! Martin W2025-04-29Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Will, Tamie, Nami, and Ryuji were excellent hosts and guides for this tour which let us explore less-touristed parts of Japan. I felt we learned a lot about Japanese culture in very authentic settings. Hotels and meals were great and the support vehicle came in extremely handy for various reasons!
