Who We Are
Yokoso! Welcome to We Ride Japan!
We Ride Japan was founded by Will and Tamie Turner in 2023. Based on Shikoku Island, Will and Tami work in regional tourism development, using cycle tourism as a tool to revitalize the region they live.
After meeting in Japan in 2005 they spent 2 years travelling the world on bicycles before settling in New Zealand. In 2020 they returned to Japan to embark on a new adventure. Through their work and life experiences in both the cycle and tourism industries, and their current work in regional tourism development, Will and Tami offer professional well-planned and unique itineraries. Our goal is to give our guests once in a lifetime experiences in the country we love. Small groups, local guides and the spirit of adventure is what we’re all about.
Thanks for your interest! We look forward to hosting you!
Our team
Tamie Okawa
Co-founder of WRJ
Born and raised in Matsuyama, Shikoku, Tamie travelled and lived overseas for many years before returning to her homeland. Since returning to Japan, Tamie has been working on a regional revitalisation project, utilizing cycle tourism as a tool to revitalise the local economy.
Tamie made her first trip by bicycle back in 2006, when she cycled around northern Scotland. Here she fell in love with bicycle travel and hasn’t stopped cycling since. She loves nothing more than showing guests around her home country and her attention to detail and careful planning means nothing is missed!
William Turner
Co-founder of WRJ
Will first came to Japan from the UK in 2004. During his first year living in the land of the rising sun he bought a bike and some pannier bags and set off on an adventure around the country that would inspire him for the future. After meeting his now wife Tamie, together they cycled around the world on their bicycles.
Will worked in the bicycle industry for over 10 years before turning to adventure tourism. He now spends his time guiding tours in Japan and New Zealand and working on regional tourism projects in the area he lives. He has a love for adventure and exploration and enjoys sharing this passion with his guests.

Hi, I’m Tomo. I was born and raised in Kumamoto, Kyushu. My father owned a bicycle shop, so I’ve been around bikes for as long as I can remember.
My first long-distance cycling trip was across Japan when I was a university student, and that’s when I truly fell in love with bicycle travel.
A few years later, I took that passion overseas, riding through Australia and New Zealand on my folding bike. Along the way, I met Tami and Will in Auckland through an online cycling community.
Outside of cycling, I enjoy motorcycles, trekking, trail running, camping, and travel, plus a good craft beer and quality chocolate!!
Now that I’ve joined WRJ as a tour guide, I’m excited to share my experience and perspective to create memorable journeys for our guests. Look forward to meeting you on the road!

I’ve spent my whole life in Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku and love where I live! I am a self-proclaimed “local specialist ” and work as a museum guide and a boatman, mainly in the Nanyo (South Ehime Prefecture) area.
I started cycling in the summer of 2021 when I participated in a group ride with Will & Tamie. I was impressed by the feeling of being more integrated in nature and I quickly became addicted!
Is my world small? NO! The world I live in is deep! I look forward to meeting you!

Guide
I’m Yu from Kyoto! I started mountain biking after a family camping trip and entered the competitive scene at the age of 8. I went on to become the Japanese national champion in various cycling disciplines, and from 2013 to 2015, I was a member of a Belgian Continental team, competing primarily in cyclocross and road races across Europe. After that, I focused on mountain biking and cyclocross competitions in Japan, while also mentoring youth and junior athletes and working as a tour guide to help more people enjoy cycling in Japan.
I hope to use my experience to support you and make your cycling journey even better! I can go fast if you’d like, but don’t worry—I now specialize in leisurely, laid-back rides

If you are looking for a professionally guided, meticulously planned tour that goes beyond the typical tourist paths, We Ride Japan offers an authentic, high-quality, and deeply rewarding experience. Their attention to detail in route planning and local immersion sets them apart for an unforgettable cycling adventure in Japan. These were the best guides we have ever had! Thank you Will, Yu , Nami and Atsu. The rental bikes were top notch, Wow. The onsen’s were beautiful, the scenery was stunning, the route was magical, the people of Japan are spectacular. The food and Cultural experience was simply fantastic. Thank you to We Ride Japan🙏Posted on Kiyomi CampTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The Seto Inland Sea and Shikoku tour was absolutely fantastic! The guides were knowledgeable and fun, and their love for the area was evident. The accommodations were first rate, ranging from elegant modern suites to authentic ryokan, many with onsens. The meals showcased local specialties and care was taken to accommodate those with food restrictions. The routes included stops at many places of interest, with explanations of their significance by the guides. Rental bikes were of high quality, and the guides were quick to correct any problems. We brought our own tandem, and they were very careful with it on the transport stages. The routes were really spectacular, traveling through many interesting little towns, beautiful forests, and seaside vistas. The optional experiences were fun and helped deepen our understanding of Japanese culture. The guides' knowledge of the area enabled them to quickly come up with an enjoyable alternative plan when torrential rain caused half the participants to forego that day's ride. I can't wait to go on another tour by We Ride Japan!Posted on Robin RickerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Will, Tamie, Atsu, Nami and Yu could not have been kinder nor more accommodating. I was the sole non-cycling partner, it was truly a joy to have the chance to meet each of them individually for the duration of the trip. I adored each and everyone, had great conversations, was able to admire nature and culture while they set up for break stops. I did some Nature Journalling as we went. They kindly included me in the group though often I wandered off to document insects for INaturalist and birds for Merlin. The trip was filled with wonderful cyclists, staff, food and excellent accommodations with views to take ones breath away. I will gladly go along again if the opportunity arises.Posted on Robin DushkinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I would add more stars if I could! Will and his team exceeded my expectations with all aspects of this trip— from top notch bikes, well thought out bike routes ( with adjustments for riders) , exceptional stays, well researched restaurants to meet everyone’s dietary needs, guides extradonaire, a personal touch with Japanese hospitality !. Don’t hesitate sign up.. you will never regret this experience!Posted on Steph BloomTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing trip. Will and Tamie, Nami, Atsu and Yu embody the true character of Japan. Always smiling the love they have for their country shined thru the whole trip. The routes were fun and the hills and bridges exhilarating. I loved waving at all the locals as we went by. The hotels were first rate and Will managed to find so many restaurants for an authentic experience that ticked all the boxes. Already thinking of a return trip!!Posted on Henry LesterTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We were lucky to have only one rainy day and to have enjoyed peak cherry blossom season. I must also say that my rental was excellent. Overall a classy operation.Posted on Wendy BrownTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We did the fully supported Southern Japan trip in September 2025. Great routes, caring staff, interesting hotels, fantastic cuisine, high quality ebikes. The routes were well planned and it was so good to dip into a hot bath at the end of each day in the saddle. The staff (Will, Nami, Yu and Ruji - who doubled as tour leader, guides, drivers and mechanics) did an amazing job in meeting all the wishes (and demands!) of a group with very varied cycling experience and ability; they made the logistics of keeping everyone happy seem easy. If you are looking for THE most amazing group cycling holiday in Japan for 2026 - too bad - they are all fully booked for this year already. Sign up now for 2027.Posted on Anthony MarterTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What an amazing experience! Did the Seto Inland Sea trip and it was awesome - the We Ride Japan crew are an amazing friendly team who have created a fantastic fun and fascinating ride itinerary. The guides were awesome, and the accommodation and food choices along the route were very cool - well worth the cost. The route is very well thought out - I can tell that a lot of work has gone into picking the perfect mix of scenery and road types. Highly recommend the We Ride Japan team and this trip!Posted on Yvonne WoodTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Awesome experience with the We Ride Japan team in October 2025, the Seto Inland Sea and Shikoku Tour. This team, Will, Tamie, Nami, Yu and Hiro, have nailed every aspect of this cycle adventure. Sharing all those Japanese traditions of the Buddhist and Shinto culture, tantalising our taste buds with local cuisine, experiencing Ryokans and onsens, even learning some fun aspects of the language- Yabai! The e-bikes were a dream, the hill climbs added a challenge and the 10km cruising downhill so exciting. This, plus the beautiful scenery, dense forest, sparkling coastline, awesome bridges and travelling through rural areas was a delight. With 4 super guides on our trip we felt well looked after and safe. Shout out to our “cycling buddies” on this tour, wonderful company and fun. Loved this adventure- Arigatou gozaimasu “We Ride Japan” for making this truely memorable.Posted on Addy CTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We Ride Japan: Masters of Detail I recently completed the 9-day Shikoku and Seto Inland Sea cycling tour with We Ride Japan, and it was truly a phenomenal experience. While the views were stunning (as expected), what truly set this company apart was the team's relentless, almost military-grade attention to detail. This wasn't just a cycling trip; it was a flawlessly executed, luxury cultural experience that ran like clockwork. Safety and Navigation: Every single morning, the bikes were tuned, tire pressures were perfect, and the GPS unit pre-loaded with the route. This proactive approach meant zero navigational stress and maximum focus on the ride. Every ride, we were led by an enthusiastic Leader at the front and a trusty Sweep at the back (with several sign postings by the accompanying van along the way) - truly conveying their commitment to road safety. Accommodation, Luggage and Logistics: The van support team performed a daily miracle. My bag was always waiting for me in my room, spotless and secure, even in remote locations. It's the small detail of the consistency and reliability that makes a massive difference over a multi-day tour. Accommodation was also better than expected - ranging from traditional ryokans to chic hotels; needless to say, the cuisine that followed was nothing but impressive. Personalized Care: Attention to detail extended beyond mechanics. The guides, particularly Nami and Will, had a profound depth of knowledge. Whether it was pointing out a specific, locally grown fruits we were cycling past, or explaining the history behind a tiny roadside temple, they transformed the scenery into a narrative. The constant supply of hot and cold drinks, snacks and the occasional chocolate treat (donuts, chocs) waiting at the end of every climb was the ultimate sign of their thoughtfulness. If you are looking for a guided cycling tour where every logistical hurdle has been smoothly removed, leaving you free to just ride and enjoy the breathtaking culture of Japan, We Ride Japan is the company to choose. Highly, highly recommended - they are truly masters of their craft.
